I was excited to start reading today. Less excited to find that in contrast to the last time I read it (when I was about 14) I now need my glasses to read the tiny print 😂
So excited to read with you again, Renata!! It’s such fun rereading this book after first finding it as a young reader. I have loved getting to know Jane again and am so happy you have, too.
Today is a dreary, cold day in the mountains. My hardcopy edition is on my bedside table, marked with little pieces of paper. I began reading last week because my reading puts me to sleep after only a couple of pages. The wood stove is on, and I grabbed my book to read by the heat. 🥰
I love this idea of "slow" reading - of reading and thinking deeply. Jane Eyre is one of my all-time favorites. I have read it and or listened to it multiple times. It never fails to engage me. Re-reading the first few pages, a few minutes ago, reminded me of how much I love it - such powerful writing and presentation of characters. I love how Bronte's words stir my imagination - I create a movie in my head! I have been wanting to participate in a book club that reads the classics. I am so happy I found this Substack newsletter!
I got my copy at my local library. They had several versions. I chose the crimson colored house with the giant full moon. I am looking forward to this slow read!

Oh, I feel your pain, Louise!!
Can’t wait! I made myself a little bookmark and I’ve been patiently waiting to start
I just finished reading the first four chapters of the book with much admiration for Charlotte Brontë’s writing. It is such a treat! Pure art!
Years ago, I read Jane Eyre in translation while growing up in Croatia. Being able to enjoy it in its original tongue is a gift.
Thank you Caroline for your wise decision and looking forward to your commentary on Mondays.
Stay healthy and keep warm!
We are freezing here in Canada.

Can’t wait for this! I read it years ago & like you say, saw myself in her. It really moved me this book. So thrilled to read along with everyone.
Absolutely thrilled to have you, love! Very excited to read together. 🩷

I actually didn't know how intense Jane Eyre is!

Yay!!! I’m looking forward to reading Jane Eyre through older (now-bespectacled) eyes and many more years of experience.
I stayed up Saturday crying over the last few chapters of Possession to put that book to rest (finally). 📚
